The Barnstormers went on the road to Arizona this weekend and defeated the Rattlers, 67-47 to finish their season. A game review will be coming your way tomorrow as well as a season recap later this week.
The ‘Stormers lost last night 75-67. I’ll write up a game review sometime I suppose…
KCCI reported just over an hour ago that the Iowa Barnstormers and the Iowa Events Center/Polk County have agreed to a new “long-term” lease agreement.
More details are supposed to be announced at a press conference tomorrow morning (Thursday the 22nd) at 11 o’clock.
BIG thanks to Troy Vicker of the Iowa Barnstormers Examiner for writing up this preview for the game this weekend:
With the Barnstormers loss last week, the Milwaukee Iron were able to clinch a playoff spot with their 57-41 victory over Orlando. Milwaukee comes to Wells Fargo Arena this Saturday looking to build some momentum heading into the playoffs, but Iowa will be looking to send them into the post season beaten and battered.
The Iron bring the number one scoring offense to town to face the Barnstormers’ number two scoring defense. Unfortunately for Milwaukee, there defense only ranks in the bottom third of the league, and they haven’t produced an abundance of turnovers. That’s great news for the Iowa Barnstormers, who have not only struggled to put up a lot of points this season, but have had trouble hanging on to the ball as well. The scoreboard operator could get a work out in this one.
But who cares?
Barnstormer fans are all abuzz about the return of Coach Bob Landsee to Wells Fargo Arena. In case you missed it, the last time Coach Landsee visited Des Moines he was the head coach of the AF2 Green Bay Blizzard who were in town for a playoff game against the Barnstormers. The Blizzard beat the Barnstormers in that game, but it was the post game that got fans really worked up. If you recall, Landsee and a few Blizzard players got into a shouting match with some Barnstormer fans that almost came to blows. It took several people to escort him off of the field as he directed f-bombs at fans and officials all the way into the locker room. You can view video of the incident here. Be warned! There is some explicit language.
The Barnstormer and Iron kick off at 7:05pm. The ‘Stormer fans and Coach Landsee could kick off shortly after that. You don’t want to miss the action!
Prediction: Iowa 63, Milwaukee 56
Go ‘Stormers!
As per the transaction reports today, WR Todd Blythe and DE Brent Curvey have been placed on Injured Reserve, making them inactive for the rest of the season.
The Barnstormers were assigned OL Mike Jones out of Tartleton State.
With Milwaukee’s win over the Orlando Predators last night, the Iowa Barnstormers have been eliminated from playoff contention. With the Iron and Arizona Rattlers winning this weekend, the National Conference playoff race is over as all four teams have been determined. Spokane has clinched their division and home-field advantage, Chicago is the current #2 seed as Arizona and Milwaukee round out the bunch.
On the American Conference side of things, Jacksonville, Tulsa, Tampa Bay have clinched playoff spots while Oklahoma City is currently in the fourth spot but battling with Orlando and Alabama, all with an 6-8 record.
The Barnstormers face Bob Landsee’s Milwaukee Iron next weekend, it’s sure to be a great game as we’ll be battling for a .500 record.

The Barnstormers lost to the top-ranked Spokane Shock tonight, 48-42 at Wells Fargo Arena.
‘Stormer Nation will have a full game review up sometime tomorrow.
Plain and simple: This game is a MUST win against the best team in the league. If we win, our small playoff chances stay alive. If Orlando would happen to beat Milwaukee, our small playoff chances would be even more alive. On the other hand, if we lose, there will be no playoffs for us this year.
The Spokane Shock are ranked first in the AFLWA Poll, they’re first in the Fan Poll, and they’re second in the Coaches Poll. Iowa is unranked in the AFLWA Poll, 10th in the Fan Poll, and 12th in the Coaches Poll. I suppose you could say we’re big underdogs.
The game will be televised on the NFL Network live from Wells Fargo Arena tomorrow night. Will it be enough for the ‘Stormers to pick up the win? Who knows.
Shock quarterback Kyle Rowley has thrown 301 for 462, 3576 yards, 83 touchdowns, and 9 interceptions. Huey Whittaker has caught 116 catches for 1305 yards and 20 touchdowns. Whittaker is averaging just over 100 yards a game. Both players can easily be classified as a top-five candidate in each of their respective positions.
However, the Barnstormers do have one of, if not, the best defenses in the league. With Tanner Varner and Jason Simpson ranking first and fourth, respectively, in tackles, this isn’t a defensive the mess with.
‘Stormer Nation Prediction: Iowa 49 – Spokane 42
